Drawing a road

Put a road you love on the map yourself. Draw the line, name it, and let other drivers find it.

Everyone has one. The back way that nobody takes, the ridge road you go out of your way for. Marque lets you draw it and put it on the map, so other drivers can find it and follow it the same way they follow any other road.

Draw the line

Open Explore and switch to the map.
Tap the pencil in the rail down the side - Draw a road.
Tap the map where the road starts, then tap where it should go. Marque finds the driving route between your points, so you’re placing corners, not tracing every bend.
Keep tapping to extend it. Tap a point you already placed to take it out again.

Three controls sit down the right-hand side. Close the loop brings the line back to where it started. There and back runs it out and returns the same way. Undo steps back one point.

Tip

The card at the top keeps a running read of what you’ve drawn: the distance, the climb once there’s a meaningful one, and how hard the road is. Watch it as you place points; it’s the fastest way to feel whether the line is the drive you had in mind.

Name it and publish

Tap Save when the line is right. Marque asks for three things:

A name - what you would call it telling a friend. The back way to…
What makes it worth driving - optional, a line or two.
What kind of road it is - scenic, sightseeing, coastal, or sunset.

Publish, and the road goes on the map with its own page and board. Anyone looking at that part of the world will find it.

Good to know

A drawn road is public. It’s not tied to your account privacy the way a drive is. You’re adding something to the map for everyone, under your name. Don’t draw a road that starts on your own driveway.

When it won’t publish

A road has to be worth handing to a stranger, so a few lines are turned away, and the reason appears in the card while you’re still drawing, when there’s a point left to move:

Under a kilometre - that’s a corner, not a road. Place the points further apart.
It runs into a dead end - move the last point onto a road that carries on.
Too much of it is unsealed - gravel and forest track make a poor recommendation for someone who has never seen the place.

Good to know

Turning on Allow unpaved roads in your settings changes the line Marque draws between your points. It doesn’t lower the bar for publishing. A road that’s mostly gravel still won’t go on the map.

How many you can publish

Everyone can have three roads on the map. Premium raises that to fifty. The count is what stands, not what you’ve ever drawn, so deleting one frees the slot again.

Your roads, later

Everything you’ve published is under Drawn, next to your saved roads on the map. Deleting one takes it off the map for everybody, and its board goes with it. Drives that already followed it stay exactly as they are.

On the road

You’re recommending a road, never a way to drive it. Draw roads that are legal and sensible to drive at the limit, and remember that the person who follows it won’t know the corners the way you do.
