Meet Apex

Some of what you read in Marque was written rather than measured. Apex is the name for that writing. The paragraph that puts a drive into words, the description on a road you’ve never driven, the caption you didn’t have to think of.

Most of the time Apex turns up in the handful of places where a sentence does something a number can’t. You can also ask it things yourself.

Where you meet Apex

• The debrief - a drive put into plain language: the corner that stood out, how composed you were, how it sat against your own history. On the drive’s report.
• Your month - the same thing at a longer range, once a month. Your month in review.
• Road write-ups - the scenic routes Marque suggests are found by Apex and written up the way somebody who had driven them would describe them. See following a road.
• Captions - stuck for what to say about a drive, you can ask for a line and take it or ignore it.
• Build advice - a read of what’s on your car and what it wants next.
• A word on a rivalry - a light note when you and another driver keep trading places on a road.

Asking Apex

Tap the sparkle at the top of Home to open Apex, or the one on a drive or a car to ask about that one. It knows how Marque works and can look at your drives, your garage, your clubs, the roads around you and where you stand on the board. Ask it what’s due on your car, how this week’s driving went, or where to find a setting.

Apex can also make a few changes for you: rename a drive, move it to another car, update a car’s details or mileage, and log a service or an expense. It says what it’s about to do and shows you a card first. Nothing changes until you tap Confirm. It can’t post, share, delete or message anyone.

Answers carry links to the screens they talk about, so a drive or a car Apex mentions is one tap away. Apex can get things wrong, so check anything you rely on.

The violet sparkle

Anything Apex wrote or picked carries a violet sparkle. The colour is deliberate: it’s the one colour in Marque that never changes with your chosen livery, so it means the same thing on every screen and on everybody’s phone. If you see it, a machine had a hand in those words. If you don’t, it’s your driving, measured.

Describe, never instruct

What Apex writes on your drives describes what already happened. It doesn’t tell you to carry more speed, doesn’t set you a target, and doesn’t grade a drive against anybody else. Every sentence it writes there is checked against that boundary before you see it. Ask it how to go faster and it won’t coach you: the board ranks composure, never pace.

It waits to be asked

Nothing here writes itself the moment you finish a drive. A debrief takes a tap, and so does a caption - and once something is written it’s kept, so opening it again costs nothing and reads the same as the day it was written.
