Beyond the road

Virtual and sim drives

Record a lap from a racing sim, or pull richer engine data from an OBD-II dongle - always kept honest and labelled.

Not every drive happens on a road. Marque can record a lap from a racing simulator, and it can read extra data from your real car through an OBD-II dongle. Both give you a report just like a normal drive - but a sim lap is always kept clearly separate from the real world.

Sim drives

If you run a racing sim, Marque can capture a lap from it - the world-space line of the track, plus the telemetry the game exposes, like engine speed and the g-force you pulled. The lap shows up with a route, stats, and everything else you would expect from a drive. Setting that up is its own walk-through: connecting your racing sim.

Good to know

A sim lap is stamped as a Virtual drive everywhere it appears - on the finish screen, in the feed, and in any exported video. It can never be mistaken for a real-world drive, and it never mixes into the real-road boards.

OBD-II - richer data from a real car

A drive on a real road is recorded from GPS by default and needs no hardware. If you want more - engine speed, throttle, and other channels the car itself knows - you can pair a Bluetooth OBD-II dongle plugged into your car’s diagnostic port. Marque reads it live during the drive and folds it into the report - see connecting an OBD-II adapter for the pairing steps and the battery-drain warning that comes with leaving a dongle plugged in.

What you need

  • For a sim - Forza, F1 24, Gran Turismo 7, Assetto Corsa or Competizione, and both ends on the same home network. Step by step, per title: connecting your racing sim.
  • For OBD data - a Bluetooth OBD-II dongle in the car’s port, paired once: connecting an OBD-II adapter. Without one, GPS recording works exactly as normal.

Tip

There is nothing to set up for an ordinary drive. GPS recording is the default and needs no dongle, no sim, and no pairing - see recording a drive.
